As part of the drive to raise our profile and funds for the charity, We are branching out into the high street. We cannot divulge the exact location yet, as all the behind scenes paperwork is still being completed, but we can reveal our shop will focus on outdoor living and offer a range of new and donated goods related to enjoying our great outdoors.

But we need your help !
Please have a look around your cupboards and sheds and if you find items you no longer use please donate them to our new venture. We are not really looking for house decor, but if you’ve already sorted a few boxes in a new year fit of enthusiasm, then don’t worry we are happy to take everything and if there’s anything not part of the theme we will gladly pass it on to another local charity shop.

We are especially happy to receive:
Coats
Boots
Hats
Gloves
Scarves
Waterproofs
Anything associated with;
Camping
Boating
Fishing
Skateboarding
Golf
Cycling
Tennis
Watersports
Gardening tools
Garden ornaments and furniture
Planters
Plants
Books
Artwork depicting rural scenes
Picnic baskets
Rural arts and crafts

Or anything else associated with outdoor pursuits

If you have higher value items you are looking to sell please get in touch as we will also be acting as an agency taking a commission on higher ticket price items. You can drop off your donations to our office at the Shide Meadows Centre in Newport or contact us and arrange a collection.

Volunteers

We are incredibly lucky to have so many wonderful volunteers to help us with some of the essential landscape work, but if that’s not for you, this could be your chance to shine. We will need help in the shop and need to compile a roster of people who could offer some retail support. Get in touch if you might be interested and will will give you some more details

This is a big step for the charity and we are really looking forward to taking on the challenge to bring something new to the island retail sector as well as lifting our profile with the general public.

Please help us achieve our goals

Thank you

We have been investigating putting cattle back to graze on Nansen Hill, in partnership with our neighbours the National Trust who already do graze the neighbouring fields. Although we had no plans to start grazing this year, as it turned out, late in November the cattle took things into their own hands and broke through the fence at the top of the site. About nine animals were on Nansen Hill for about ten days. We decided to leave them there for a little while to see how things went, and you may have noticed the signs we put up at the entrance points to let people know that the cattle were on the field. The cattle seemed happy on the site and managed to graze back some areas a bit, and so they are now safely back in the NT fields and we’re considering how to take this forward. Read more

Big changes are going on at the Pan Mill Meadows nature reserve in Newport. You might have seen us working, part of the area we’re working on is very visible from St George’s Roundabout by Matalan.

So what’s happening?

Gift to Nature has leased more land from the Isle of Wight Council and has also secured funding from the Suez Communities Trust, and Newport Parish Council.

This will extend the reserve and allow for the Freshwater firm of countryside professionals, Landscape Therapy, to carry out improvements. Work is expected to continue until spring 2017. Read more

Gift To Nature want to know what to call Ryde’s nature reserve – will you help? The nature reserve south of Quarry Lane, Ryde has various names, and people have told us they want to have a say in what we call it in the future. So now’s your chance to tell Gift To Nature what you think they should call that beautiful bit of countryside.

At present Gift To Nature are calling it Swanmore Meadows, but local people have said that name suggests a housing estate, and not the beautiful woodland and grassland it is.

The nature reserve at Swanmore Meadows, Ryde, is one of the nominated projects for the Isle of Wight! Swanmore Meadows is managed by Gift to Nature with ongoing support from Ryde Town Council. It’s a beautiful place, but because there are not many paths the reserve is quite hard to get around and we still have a lot of work to do. Read more
